Stepping Out...

Last night I watched the Presidential Address. As usual, Mr. President brought the heat and delivered a speech that was filled with hope and change, but I couldn't help but notice all of the old people that were in attendance. Congress is filled with old, wrinkly men of a lighter color who were talking, doing crossword puzzles, and taking naps while Obama was speaking!

Seeing the age range of the members of Congress, my passion to devote my life to helping young people was deepened even more. How is it possible to do new things with old, no pun intended, people? I grew up hearing the phrase, "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" and I think that it applies perfectly in this situation. Here we have a country that is facing unprecedented problems on every level and even though we have a new leader who is willing to think out of the box, the Republicans supporting cast wants to stick to the traditional way of doing things. Not going to work!

Same with relationships. It's impossible to get new results if all the circumstances stay the same. As with anything in life there are always going to be risks involved with change, but at some point if you seek a different result you have to have a different approach.

Have you ever taken a risk in dating habits/relationships? Feel free to share...

Well since I've been with the same person for 17 years, I guess that is a risk I took. That it would work out, and that the Naysayers didnt matter (and believe me there were plenty).

Lately I've just been trying damn near everything, probably because I'm alone in a completely new environment. It hasn't worked spectacularly but I have met some interesting folks. You just gotta keep trying tho, the first time you think outside the box if it fails you can't go back to your comfort zone. Life is too short to miss out just to be comfortable/safe.
